Storytelling establishes the foundations for how we form our design direction and decisions enabling us to bring positive emotions, experiences and memories to peoples lives.
At the Paediatric department at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital our project aim was to provide young patients with a positive and playful experience during their hospital visits. The setting of our story submerges the young patients and their parents at the seaside into a whimsical world where the plot takes them on a journey to meet characters enjoying sandy beaches and blue skies. Children can take part and enjoy relaxing under palm trees and parasols, see flying birds overhead, and play in colourful beach huts. For the parents there are benches to mimic hammocks, so that they could hopefully lose themselves in the story, just for a moment too. Because, well, who doesn’t love the beach!
